Official Celebration on the Occasion of the Day of the Army and Day of the Infantry

This evening, the Army Day and Infantry Day were observed by an official celebration held in the Military Club in Niš with the attendance of Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović and Board members of the minister of defence and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Congratulating message of President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, read at the beginning of the celebration, reads:

"The Army units execute assigned tasks and achieve notable results in training and qualifying members of your arm and other subjects of defence and security of our country. You have shown good will and displayed readiness to use the opportunities for modernisation and advancement of the Army units. Continuous economic growth of our country will open new opportunities for us to continue modernising our armed forces. Our common goal is for the Serbian Armed Forces to be best trained, equipped and highly professional. Trained, equipped and highly professional armed forces represent the backbone of defence system of the Republic of Serbia not posing a threat to anyone.

Addressing the present, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović stated that contemporary Army, through fire, movement and manoeuvre, was the backbone of the Serbian Armed Forces, and he said that he was proud of all members of the Army because they were honourable soldiers and good men.

“The state of Serbia led by President of the Republic of Serbia, and the Ministry of Defence and the minister of defence, General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, they all support the Army and its modernisation, procurement of arms and military equipment. It is upon us to prepare the Army, to be ready and at disposal to the fatherland, people and the state”, General Simović stated adding that he expected the modernisation to continue and support in raising the standard of members of the armed forces.

This evening’s celebration “Niš throughout the wars” dedicated to rich military history and all the heroes of that town, was attended by representatives of the town of Niš, town municipalities, local self-governments, religious communities, veteran associations and numerous guests. Cultural and artistic part of the programme included the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binički”, Church-Singing Company “Branko”, vocal and drama performers.

The Day of the Army and Day of the Infantry are celebrated on 16th November in memory of the date when in 1914 the battle of Kolubara started in which Serbian army won its greatest victory. The main body of the Serbian army that conducted combat actions were 11th Infantry and one cavalry division, supported by 426 artillery weapons.
