Minister Vulin: Armed Forces develops a competitive spirit

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Milan Mojsilović have talked with members of the military national team of the Republic of Serbia in athletics and athletes who achieved remarkable results at recently held competitions.

Members of the national team of the Republic of Serbia in athletics won medals at the recently held 26th Novi Sad Half-Marathon, in men's, women's and relay competitions, while in the 6th night race in Alpine skiing on Mt. Zlatibor and at the Serbian Championship in 10 km road race held in Kruševac, military athletes also achieved remarkable results.

Congratulating military athletes on the achieved results, Minister Vulin pointed out that it has become traditional to meet at least once a year with military athletes on the occasion of their success.

- These are the results for which the Armed Forces is proud of you. We know how difficult it is to achieve such results being amateurs. You compete with people who spend their day exclusively on preparations for competitions, while you have all your regular activities and obligations, and according to information I receive about you, you perform your obligations in the best possible way. You practice in your free time, taking away time from yourself and your family, making efforts, and here are the results – Minister Vulin pointed out.

According to his words, it would not be just their enthusiasm, military athletes should feel that behind them there is a powerful system such as the Serbian Armed Forces.

- And when the Serbian Armed Forces decides something then it has to be implemented and done successfully, and that must be the best. The sports unit is something that I think the Serbian Armed Forces lacked and what I believe that will be able to deliver significant results now. We will soon be lined up, very soon we will also admit top professionals to our ranks who will be able to help us with their current engagement and condition, but also in the future with their knowledge. But in the first place, it is a unit belonging to the Serbian Armed Forces, which will include those who have already demonstrated knowledge, talent, patience and persistence – Minister Vulin said.

The Serbian Armed Forces, he added, has one of its fundamental values which is charishing the sports and winning spirit, the need to win, to be the first in front of everyone.

- Whenever members of the Serbian Armed Forces compete, this means that we wish to be the first, that we wish to do our best to be the best, because that is what we are. The Serbian Armed Forces nurtures the sport spirit, nurtures the collective spirit and spirit of sacrifice for the other, for the unit, for the Armed Forces, for the people, for the country, and these are the best athletes – Minister Vulin said, adding that their victories are primarily due to strong psychological readiness, and patience.

- Referring to the success of our athletes in the previous period, Brigadier General Siniša Radović, Head of the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to CISM, pointed out that by forming a sports unit which is to be a task in the year ahead, this area will be completely legally organised, which will certainly contribute to even better results in the future.

- The primary objective of everything we do is notably to develop a competitive spirit, psychophysical abilities, contribute to the development of operational and functional capabilities and raise the morale of the Serbian Armed Forces and transfer it to other members, as well as to promote healthy life and presentation of the Serbian Armed Forces in an adequate way General Radović emphasised, adding that our military athletes are to “line-up” on 27th May at the Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces, and then to participate in the World Championship – military games in China, among nine thousand competitors from all over the world.

On behalf of military athletes, the audience was addressed by Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević, who thanked the minister of defence and the chief of General Staff for the attention they pay to the development and improvement of military sports, as well as to the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces to CISM and General Radović, who provided with their activities all the necessary conditions for our military athletes to fight on an equal footing and achieve good results in domestic and international competitions.

- Thank you for the attention you attach to the development of sports in the Serbian Armed Forces as it is a sign of the desire to develop and raise a high level of physical abilities which is a prerequisite for a general increase in the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces – Lieutenant Colonel Milosavljević stressed.

The minister of defence and the chief of General Staff, rewarded military athletes for the achieved results, with a seven-day stay in military institutions at Tara.
