Members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces Observed the Day before Christmas

Traditionally, burning of the Christmas tree was organised in the presence of Serbian Patriarch Irinej and the priesthood of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the plateau in front of the Saint Sava Church in Vračar, on the occasion of today’s holiday the Day before Christmas.

Pripadnici Ministarstva odbrane i Vojske Srbije obeležili Badnji dan Burning of the Christmas tree was also attended by members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik and Secretary General of the Republic Nikola Selaković, and the traditional event gathered a great number of believers too.

Patriarch Irinej extended his greetings to all those who celebrate the Day before Christmas and Christmas with the traditional greeting “Peace of God, Christ is born!” adding that the essence of that day’s holiday was Christ, who had deigned to be born and reveal himself to the human kind.

Pripadnici Ministarstva odbrane i Vojske Srbije obeležili Badnji dan Speaking about the Christmas tree, Patriarch Irinej said that it was a tree of life and a symbol of Christ’s birth, and he called upon the people on behalf of the Church to protect their customs, never forgetting that the essence lies in Jesus Christ, who had taken human form because of us thus showing his love for us.
