Lighting yule log in Topcider barracks

By holding a religious procession and burning of badnjak-yule log (oak branches) Christmas Eve was marked in the barracks Topcider today. The ceremony of burning a yule log was conducted by military chaplain father Selimir Vagic with the help of his colleagues, while the procession was headed by the commander of the training command Major General Djokica Petrovic.

The ceremony of burning a yule log was conducted by military chaplain father Selimir Vagic with the help of his colleagues, while the procession was headed by the commander of the training command Major General Djokica Petrovic.

The ceremony , in addition to several hundred soldiers , officers and civilians was attended by the Chief of Defence Inspectorate Major General Goran Radovanovic , deputy commander of the Training Command , Major General Mlađen Nišević and Chief of intelligence and reconnaissance operations , Brigadier General Ilija Todorov .

Celebrating Christmas Eve Day, Christmas and the patron saint’s day of the barracks was commonplace until the Second World War, however this tradition was later discontinued for ideological reasons.
