Promotions and Appointments to New Duties in the Serbian Armed Forces

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Dr. Nebojša Stefanović handed over decrees of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić on promotions and appointments to new duties of Serbian Army officers at a ceremony in the Great War Hall of the Old General Staff. Handing them the decrees, Stefanović said that he expected them to continue to be dedicated guardians of our country.

By presidential decrees, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Serbian Army Petar Cvetković and Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Duško Žarković were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, while Commander of the 63rd Parachute Brigade Nenad Zonić and Commander of the 4th Brigade of the Army Novica Petrović were promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

Brigadier General Željko Petrović has been appointed Commander of the Training Command. Brigadier General Petar Latković has been appointed Chief of the Directorate for Training and Doctrine (J-7) of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, while Colonel Saša Petrović has been appointed Commander of the Central Logistics Base of the Logistics Directorate (J-4) of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Minister Stefanović pointed out that he was honored to hand over the decrees of the President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Army, AleksandarVučić, to the promoted and newly appointed officers. Speaking about the members who were given new duties, the Minister pointed out that these are three exceptional people who, with their dedicated work so far, deserved to be appointed to such important positions.

— The results of your work clearly show why the Chief of the General Staff and the President of the Republic and the Ministry decided to trust you. I want you to invest all possible energy and commitment in the next period so that our Army continues to progress — said Stefanović.

The Minister also pointed out that two experienced generals were promoted today to the rank of lieutenant general — Cvetković and Žarković, who have been in the defence system for a very long time. Our army gained two new lieutenant generals who earned trust.

— You will have difficult tasks. It has never been easy in the army, but you will all have — all seven, a difficult, serious and responsible task of preserving the security and safety of our Serbia — said the Minister, recalling the words of General Mojsilović that "when military epaulets are difficult, it is just of a reason, that is expected from you a lot. "

Stefanović also emphasized that, in addition to numerous tasks, it is an important task for everyone in the Army and the Ministry to call on our soldiers even more convincingly to be vaccinated. 

— We provide for them and for their families enough vaccine. Vaccination is an act of patriotism. You should not allow infecting anyone and to decrease the combat readiness of our army — said Stefanović.

Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković is the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces. He has been in professional military service since July 21, 1990. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on September 14, 2018. He graduated from the Military High School in 1986, the Military Academy in 1990, the Command and Staff Training in 2005, the General Staff Training in 2009 and the Higher Security and Defence Studies in 2015. He was the director of the Military Security Agency and the deputy director of the Military Security Agency.

Lieutenant General Duško Zarković is the commander of the Air Force and Air Defence. He has been in professional military service since July 21, 1990. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on September 14, 2018. He graduated from the Military High School in 1986, the Military Academy in 1990, the General Staff School in 1999, the General Staff Training in 2006 and the Higher Security and Defence Studies in 2018. He was the Chief of the Directorate for Operational Affairs of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence and Commander of the 250th Missile Brigade.

Brigadier General Novica Petrović was on duty commander of the 4th Brigade of the Army, and in the professional military service as of 20 July 1991. He was promoted to the rank of artillery Colonel on November 16, 2013. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1991, Command and Staff Training in 2002, General Staff Training in 2012 and Higher Security and Defence Studies in 2019. He was the commander of the Mixed Artillery Brigade and the deputy commander of the Mixed Artillery Brigade.

Brigadier General Nenad Zonić is the commander of the 63rd Parachute Brigade. In the professional military service from 30 July 1994. He was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of infantry Colonel on December 12, 2019. He graduated from the Military High School in 1990, the Military Academy in 1994, the Command and Staff Training in 2011 and the General Staff Training in 2018. He was the Chief of Staff of the Special Brigade and Deputy Chief of the Operational Center of the Army Command.
