Serbian Armed Forces Install Pontoon Bridge to Great War Island

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces have once again installed a pontoon bridge across the Danube, connecting Lido Beach on Great War Island with the Zemun bank.
The pontoon bridge has a load-bearing capacity of 20 tonnes and is 355 metres long. It may be used by pedestrians and city service vehicles with a total weight of up to 20 tonnes. It will be open to the public from tomorrow, while its safety and maintenance during the period of use will be ensured by River Flotilla pontoon personnel who established the bridge crossing site.
During the transportation of the bridge elements by river and their installation, the personnel practised the actions and procedures involved in carrying out the assigned tasks of pontoon units, thereby further enhancing their level of training.
Much to the satisfaction of Belgrade residents, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have for many years bridged the Danube between the Zemun bank and Great War Island. Provided that the river level permits, the pontoon bridge is planned to remain in use until the end of August, when it will be dismantled and transported back to its home garrison.
