The training process involves not only the basic but also the modern variant of "Gvozdika", which, after being fitted with a modern fire control system, has greater firepower, speed and firing accuracy, producing greater effect with multiple missiles engaging the target simultaneously.

This training cycle concludes with a live fire tactical exercise checking practically the howitzer crews' specific competences.

The 122-mm self-propelled howitzers 2S1 "Gvozdika" are intended for destroying and neutralizing adversarial personnel and artillery weapons, demolition of strong points, wire and other obstacles, creating passages through mine fields and obstacles, as well as illuminating the battlefield and creating smokescreens.
