Soldiers performing voluntary military service as part of the June 2026 intake took the military oath today at a ceremony held for the occasion at the “Vojvoda Petar Bojović” barracks in Leskovac.
The military oath-taking ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić, representatives of units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, local government authorities and the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as the families and friends of the young men and women who today joined the ranks of the defenders of their homeland.
Congratulating the soldiers on taking the oath, Minister Gašić said that they had made “an important and noble decision to place their time, knowledge and strength in the service of their homeland, to accept the responsibilities and challenges of the military profession and proudly join the ranks of the Serbian Armed Forces.”
“Today, before the flag of the Republic of Serbia, they gave their word—a binding and enduring pledge, an eternal promise that does not yield in the face of challenges. By taking the oath, they have joined the ranks of those who, throughout history, have been prepared to serve their homeland with courage and honour and to defend it whenever necessary,” the Minister of Defence said.
He emphasised that their decision to join the ranks of the chosen few carried particular significance and deserved the utmost respect.
He thanked the soldiers for making a decision worthy of the highest recognition and appreciation, and expressed the hope that they would remain faithful to the oath they had taken, to tradition and to their people.
The youngest soldiers will now continue their basic training, followed by specialist training for the duties for which they have been recruited. They will spend the final three months of their military service in Serbian Armed Forces units, where they will train to perform collective tasks within their respective branches and services and will be actively involved in daily activities alongside professional personnel.
