Chief of General Staff, Serbian Armed Forces
The Chief of the General Staff commands the Serbian Armed Forces in accordance with the law, the decisions of the President of the Republic, and command directives, and is the highest professional advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of Defence on the preparation, organization, and deployment of the Armed Forces.
The Chief of General Staff is the highest expert advisor to the President of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Defence on issues related to preparation, organization and use of the Armed Forces.

Chief of the General Staff:
- proposes the development and equipment plan of the Serbian Armed Forces;
- appoints, promotes, assigns, reassigns, transfers, and relieves officers of the Serbian Armed Forces up to the rank of Captain First Class and decides on the termination of their service, upon the proposal of their immediate superior officers;
- provides an opinion to the Minister of Defence on his proposal for the appointment, promotion, dismissal, and termination of service of generals and officers assigned to positions for which the rank of general is prescribed by the formation, in accordance with this Law;
- appoints, promotes, assigns, reassigns, transfers, and relieves non-commissioned officers and professional soldiers, assigns civilian personnel serving in the Serbian Armed Forces, and decides on the termination of their service, upon the proposal of their immediate superior officers;
- proposes the staffing plan of the Serbian Armed Forces and the numerical distribution of conscripts within the Serbian Armed Forces;
- adopts lower-level doctrinal documents;
- determines training and professional development plans for professional military personnel and reserve personnel;
- adopts the Code of Honour of members of the Serbian Armed Forces;
- assigns professional members of the Serbian Armed Forces to advanced training within the organization of the Serbian Armed Forces;
- performs other duties prescribed by law.
For the implementation of acts adopted by the President of the Republic or the Minister of Defence, as well as for the execution of command duties over the Serbian Armed Forces and other tasks prescribed by law, the Chief of the General Staff issues rules, orders, instructions, directives, decisions, and commands.
