The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff’s St. Patron’s Day (slava) - Holy Great Martyr George, St. George’s Day - has been solemnly celebrated at the Banjica 2 Barracks in Belgrade today.
The celebration of St. George’s Day began with the Holy Liturgy, followed by the blessing of the gifts and cutting of the ritual bread, after which a festive meal was arranged for the Serbian Armed Forces’ members.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense Mile Jelić, Acting Assistant Minister of Defense for Human Resources Siniša Radović, members of the Collegium of the Chief of the General Staff, as well as numerous officers, NCOs and civilians serving in the SAF General Staff.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff started celebrating its St. Patron’s (George’s) Day in 2018, thus resuming the tradition of marking the slava in the Serbian army which began in 1888.
