A two-week international CIMIC course was organized in Kruševac by the CIMIC Department (J-9) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

The participants were members of the Serbian Armed Forces and armed forces of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, North Macedonia and the United States of America, as well as representatives of the MOI Department for Emergency Situations, the Serbian Red Cross, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade.

During the training, they became familiar with the basics of civil-military cooperation in our country and in the world, competencies of international governmental and NGOs in assisting distressed populations, and previous experience in the work of CIMIC bodies in multinational operations.

In the practical part of the course, they carried out numerous tactical scenarios and visited the asylum centre in Obrenovac, where they had the opportunity to apply the acquired skills of negotiation, dialogue and working with interpreters in direct contact with migrants from different countries.

The course provided the participants with a basis for a better understanding of contemporary challenges in working with civil organizations in a complex operational environment. The training was carried out by a combined team of instructors from the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Italy and the Netherlands, with the support of lecturers from the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Serbian Red Cross and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration.

The successful implementation of this international training enhances the skills of officers and NCOs of the Serbian Armed Forces in civil-military cooperation and strengthens bilateral relations with partner countries. So far, more than 400 participants from the Republic of Serbia and 18 other states have been trained in 16 international courses organized by the CIMIC Department (J-9).
