In anticipation of the Serbian Armed Forces Day, a ceremonial gathering has been held at the “Banjica 2” Barracks in Belgrade today, where the work results of the previous year were summarized and awards and recognitions handed to the most successful individuals in the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.
In his speech, Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović has recalled the long and glorious history of the Serbian Army, pointing out that the Serbian Armed Forces Day is a holiday of all citizens, a day when we remember the values that define us as a people - freedom, honor, responsibility, and, above all, love for the homeland.
— The history of the Serbian army, which was and remains the pillar of the country’s defense and a symbol of strength and sacrifice, is a history of heroism, courage and honor. From the First and Second Serbian Uprising, Serbian-Turkish wars, glorious victories and heroism in the Balkan Wars and the First World War, to the heroic defense against the most powerful military alliance in human history, the Serbian soldier has always shown that the strength of an army lies not only in weapons, but also in character, determination and faith in the justice of its fight. Let’s just remember Cer and Kolubara, the Albanian Golgotha and the breakthrough of the Salonika front - these are not just pages of history, but the foundations of our identity - said General Mojsilović.
With the assessment that the year behind us was a year of work, responsibility and visible results, he has pointed out that the Serbian Armed Forces celebrate their holiday better trained and equipped, with new units and new capabilities, which would not be possible without the firm support of the state leadership, primarily President of the Republic, as well as the support of the Ministry of Defense and the Government on the whole.
— We will continue with accelerated development in the coming years. We will invest in personnel, weapons and infrastructure. I can say that very soon, we will go beyond the frames of our region in terms of capabilities - General Mojsilović concluded.
This year, the Serbian Armed Forces Day — April 23rd is also marked by a series of events in commands, units and institutions of the Serbian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defense, in memory of the day when the Second Serbian Uprising broke out, which was a turning point in the creation of the modern Serbian state and the army.
