Background of AMEC

The history of AMEC began with the Order of the National Defence Secretary from May 5, 1967, which was the basis for establishing the Cryptographic Centre within the former Yugoslav People's Army. The formation of this centre unified crypto activities at the national level.

During 1975, the 120th Centre integrated research and development and encryption assets development. This concept of the organization has been maintained to this day.

Intensive work and results of distinguished scientific personnel contributed to the registration of the 120th Centre as a scientific unit of general and applied research in 1981. In 1982 it was renamed to the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Electronics (IAME). It was officially registered as a scientific institute in 1985.

IAME was restructured into the Applied Mathematics and Electronics Center (AMEC) in 2006, with the status of a research and development institution.
