Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, attended the briefing on the results of the analysis of the state, operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces for the year 2025, held at the Guard’s Club in Topčider today.
The regular annual briefing was attended by Prime Minister Đuro Macut and Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić, while the briefing was chaired by Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.
The President of the Republic has pointed out that this is the most important meeting at the annual level, at which the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces are reviewed, as well as the state of war reserve materiel— from footwear and uniforms to ordnance.
— We analyze what weapons and tools we need in the coming period, we look at the security situation in the country and the surrounding area. I must say that I am very satisfied with the results achieved by the Serbian Armed Forces. In order for the citizens of Serbia to know, it seems to me that they will understand everything based on these numbers-we have record allocations of around 2.65% of the gross domestic product for the defense and security system, even a little more, but not in the most direct way. Of that big money, what is most interesting, as much as 54.1% are investments, so only 32.5% are personal, and the rest are operating expenses. I think that speaks volumes about our investments in the armed forces. It is important to preserve peace, and we can preserve peace only by deterring potential attacks on our country - said President Vučić.
President Vučić has emphasized that there is great concern about the formation of military alliances against Serbia in our surroundings.
- Accordingly, we act responsibly and seriously, without provocations, though aiming to deter anyone who would commit aggression against our country. Our defense capabilities of the Air Force and Air Defense have been increased drastically, and in the years to come, they will be especially so, as well as in all arms and branches of the military - said the President of Serbia.
Speaking about the conclusions reached on war reserve materiel, based on today’s briefing, the President has pointed out that the stocks are at a high level. He has said that the 2025 Power of Unity Military Parade was evaluated very positively, as well as the seriousness and responsibility of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the year behind, and that on this occasion they also discussed the increase in the strength of special and other units, as well as the formation of new ones. Attention was also paid to the topic of re-introducing mandatory military service.
— We talked about military service, about those 75 days. We will make decisions soon, the question is whether they will officially start serving from December or March, but we will definitely make that decision in the next month or two and put it forth at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and from September, October we will start registering military conscripts - emphasized the President of Serbia.
The Supreme Commander was briefed on the execution of tasks set following last year’s analysis, the state and capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, the factors that decisively influenced the development of capabilities in the year behind and the measures to be taken in 2026.
The security situation in the country and the surrounding area, the conditions in which the capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces were being built, the state of the units and overall operational and functional capabilities were also discussed, and the priorities of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces determined for both this year and the medium term.
The briefing was attended by the Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, the director of the police General Dragan Vasiljević, the presidents of the parliamentary committees for defense and internal affairs Milovan Drecun and the control of the security services Igor Bečić, Secretary General of the President of the Republic Suzana Paunović, members of the collegiums of the Minister of Defense and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.
