Flight training for fourth-year cadets enrolled in the Military Aviation study programme at the Military Academy is being conducted at the Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović Military Airfield in Batajnica and in the wider Belgrade area.
The training is a part of the cadets’ flight training programme, preparing them for helicopter pilot duties in the Serbian Armed Forces. It is performed on Gazelle light utility helicopters under the expert guidance of flight instructors and experienced pilots from the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron of the 204th Air Force Brigade.
In accordance with the training programme, the cadets are currently undergoing basic training, including check flights with an instructor, as well as airfield and off airfield take-off and landing exercises. They will subsequently proceed to the remaining modules of flight training — navigation, formation, instrument, and night flying in order to ensure they are fully qualified to operate this type of aircraft. In this manner the entire flight training process during their studies will be completed.
Before commencing flight training, the cadets completed theoretical instruction covering the structure and characteristics of Gazelle helicopter, radio navigation equipment, the fundamentals of aerodynamics and meteorology, and piloting techniques.
Upon completion of this flight training, cadets will be able to focus on advanced training and conversion training on Gama combat helicopters or H-145 and Mi-17 utility helicopters immediately upon starting their initial officer roles in the helicopter squadrons of the Serbian Armed Forces.
