In the ceremonial hall of the Central Military Club, the Media Center "Odbrana" today marked by a multiple jubilee – 24 January as the day of the institution, 135 years of military press in Serbia and the release of the first issue of the "Ratnik" as well as the 200th issue of "Odbrana", which continues the tradition of the military press.

At the ceremony, which was attended by Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic, SAF CHOD General Ljubisa Diković, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, associates and friends of the editorial staff, were awarded the traditional awards for best athlete of the Serbian Armed Forces, Journalism Award "Ivan Markovic" while the most successful journalist and contributor of "Odbrana" for 2013 were also proclaimed.

Congratulating the jubilee, Minister Rodic expressed satisfaction that, with yesterday's successful completion of the work on the pipeline in Uzice, he has another reason to be proud of such a significant milestone that the military press is celebrating today.

– There is symbolism in the fact that once this magazine was called "Warrior" after the Congress of Berlin in 1878. Today, it is called “Odbrana" which translates as defence. What the warriors of those time managed to conquer and reach those areas that we associate with Serbia, today we have a duty to preserve and say – this is our defense – said Minister Rodic, adding that the defense means more than what we had learned to do and that is to sacrifice ourselves. make sacrifices. On this occasion minister reminded that this paper has existed a quarter of a century more than "Politika", changing names in different systems.

– We need to work in a way that every time the word in its broadest conceptual definition is far more powerful and even deadly than words. Confrontation does not arise from a situation where words did not precede it so in the end it was the word that caused the conflict, and when words did not help, then the word resulted into confrontation, or from a set of circumstances where the army had to be deployed. Therefore magazine "Odbrana" is a symbolic link with the same name and using words we have to expand their influence as Minister Rodic observed. By sharing ideas , he said, the modern forms of communication, we will be able to reach those that may seem impossible to reach now.

– I want our army to be strong, modernly equipped, abut primarily where the word of any professional soldiers, officers and non-commissioned officers is respectd and appreciated the same way that patriotism and love for the fatherland are cherished which not only the members of Serbian Armed Forces feel but all citizens who love their country – said the minister, ending with the words "Serbia is the most beautiful country in the world".

Head of Public Relations, Colonel Petar Boskovic said that the former House of Warriors is the Central Military Club today which deals with printing books, pictures and publishing music, under whose roof three military newspapers and magazines were established the previous year seeing a hundred new titles and 17 exhibitions, with about 40,000 visitors.

– This year we will stay true to the intent that the Department of Public Relations, in performing its assigned tasks, confirms its place in the defense. We will make it worthy of preservation of the progressive tradition and its recognition of Serbia 's commitment to follow the path of progress. Together with the European Union and all countries of the world committed to preserving peace and strengthening cooperation. We will endeavor for the military press , publishing and cultural events to present Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces as an institution that the nation has every reason to trust and deposit its confidence in- as pointed out by Boskovic, adding that using modern forms of communication remains the best indicator of aspirations and achievements in the reform of defense, contributing to a better understanding of these processes and systems within and among the general public.

According to the director of the Media Center "Odbrana" Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub Markovic, this media house is increasingly promoting itself as a sort of cultural- information center with great communication potential.
