The capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces for defense against aerial attacks have been significantly improved in the recent period by the acquisition of modern radars and their integration into the system for the control and protection of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia.

The GM-400, three-dimensional, mobile, long-range radar, distinguished by its characteristics, is intended for detecting a wide range of targets and in the conditions of electronic jamming, with minimal maintenance and a high level of operational availability. In combination with the GM-200 radar, it creates a compact and multi-layered radar field that enables detection of all targets.

Members of the 126th Air Surveillance, Early Warning and Guidance Brigade conduct daily training with this modern asset for training and further improvement of their ability to perform specific tasks. The training is carried out at radar positions and includes theoretical foundations, practice of data collection and processing procedures with simulation of various airspace threat scenarios and practical work with maintaining the radar system.

As company commander Captain Lazar Golić explains, the acquisition new “Ground Master” radars greatly improved the combat, spatial and information capabilities of the 126th ASEWG Brigade, emphasizing that the maximum range of the GM-400 radar is up to 515 kilometers.

— The unit’s mobility has been significantly improved, so today it is ready in just a few minutes for moving maneuvers and occupying a new radar position, which, both in the past and in modern warfare, has proven to be one of the key factors in preserving the materiel and manpower. A lot was gained by the acquisition of new radars, and what remained the same are the people, that profile of “radar man”, lovers of technology, fully dedicated and identified with the unit, who will complete every assigned task, sparing neither resources nor themselves - emphasized Captain Golić.

Sergeant Major Zoran Milosavljević, a radar technician, points out his satisfaction with the capabilities of the new radars, adding that the knowledge and experience of the young officers who received training in France are of great help in their daily work.

— As radar operators, our work has been made much easier by the automatic detection of targets, as well as the automatic defection of malfunctions down to the block level — said Sergeant Major Milosavljević.

Thanks to advanced software solutions, the GM-400 radar provides an excellent picture of the situation in the airspace, which has a positive effect on the capabilities of the ASEWG units for observing and controlling the airspace, guiding fighter aircraft and directing missile units for anti-aircraft operations.
