Flight Training of Fighter Bomber Squadron at Relocation Airfield

The 241st Fighter Bomber Squadron of the 98th Air Force Brigade, based at the “Morava” Military Airfield in Lađevci near Kraljevo, is conducting intensive flight training using “Orao” attack aircraft to execute assigned missions in all weather conditions, both day and night.

The objective is to maintain a high level of flight crew proficiency in providing air support to ground and special forces during combat operations. The current training phase involves executing flight missions from a relocation airfield—specifically, the “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” Airfield in Batajnica.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Saša Stojiljković, Commander of the 241st Fighter-Bomber Squadron, this involves flight training aimed at enabling the unit’s permanent pilots to attain higher levels of professional combat proficiency.

“Since we are operating from a deployment airfield, the training is more complex because we have effectively combined two missions into one. We successfully redeployed a portion of our equipment and aircraft, as well as some squadron personnel, and are now successfully conducting flight training at this deployment location—as guests of our colleagues from the 204th Air Force Brigade,” says Lieutenant Colonel Stojiljković.

Speaking about what, in his personal experience, constitutes the greatest challenge of this training segment, Lieutenant Colonel Stoiljković notes that these flight operations place significant strain on both the aviation maintenance personnel and the pilots themselves, given the exceptionally long duration of the flights.

“We are talking about flights that push the limits of maximum airborne endurance, especially given such high temperatures. Our task is to safely and securely carry out the technical preparations for a demanding mission involving flight in complex weather conditions, so that—both after takeoff and landing—the pilots and aircrews can conduct a thorough analysis and address any shortcomings they observed. This creates the conditions, as I mentioned, to advance toward achieving higher levels of professional combat proficiency for our permanent personnel,” said the squadron commander.

Continuous training—conducted intensively throughout the year and in all weather conditions within the squadron and the 98th Air Force Brigade—ensures the required level of flight crew proficiency and the unit’s overall combat readiness for executing assigned tasks in Serbian Armed Forces operations.
