Tactical Training for Army Reconnaissance Units

Personnel from the 3rd Army Brigade and Armored Reconnaissance Battalion conducted final stages of their summer training near Niš, executing vertical maneuvers and overcoming water obstacles.

The tactical exercise, which involved helicopters from the 119th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, demonstrated that Army reconnaissance units are trained and capable of carrying out a wide range of intelligence support tasks during operations deep within enemy lines.

During this phase, skills in overcoming water obstacles using both standard-issue and improvised vessels were also refined.

Platoon Commander Second Lieutenant Lazar Janković has stated that this segment was carried out following the successful completion of training in swimming, hand-to-hand combat, and knife throwing, as well as independent nutrition in the wild.

— As for crossing water obstacles, we conduct training by first performing reconnaissance of the water obstacle to gather information on key characteristics—such as width, depth, current speed, and slope of the terrain or the nature of approach — stated Second Lieutenant Janković, noting that the crossings were carried out using standard-issue equipment, such as assault and reconnaissance boats, or rafts constructed from materials found in the surrounding area.

Training for reconnaissance units is conducted year-round across diverse terrain and in all conditions in which their deployment might be expected, thereby ensuring a high level of proficiency and combat readiness for these Serbian Armed Forces units.
