There has been a military ceremony at "Knjaz Mihajlo" Barracks in Niš today to mark the deployment of a new Serbian Armed Forces contingent with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković, attended the ceremony where he expressed his belief that this SAF contingent, like the previous ones, would accomplish successfully all mission’s tasks as expected from the Serbian soldier, thus providing an honorable representation of our country in international environment.

The SAF contingent, which will be deployed with UNIFIL over the next six months, is composed of a 3rd Army Brigade infantry company, staff officers and national support element. They will be performing responsible tasks in preserving peace in this Middle Eastern country’s area of operation (AO), Sector East.

SAF have been participating in UNIFIL since 2010 when they deployed five staff officers. There has been a considerable increase in the number of SAF personnel deployed on this mission ever since. Currently, apart from the forces in Sector East, SAF also deploy a force protection platoon as part of the Italian contingent in Lebanon’s AO, Sector West.
