Thursday, 8.10.2026 | Multinational Operations
A delegation from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff—comprising the Chief of the Human Resources Directorate (J-1), Brigadier General Slađan Hristov, and the Serbian Armed Forces Command Sergeant Major, Sergeant Major 1st Class Goran Đukić—paid a two-day visit to the Serbian Armed Forces contingent deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
During their visit to the area of operations, they visited the Serbian Armed Forces personnel deployed within the Spanish contingent in Sector East, southern Lebanon; they gained first-hand insight into living conditions and work organization, and verified that the deployed soldiers and officers were healthy, well-trained, properly equipped, and motivated to carry out the demanding tasks of building and maintaining peace in this Middle Eastern country.
On this occasion, they briefed soldiers and officers on current issues within the Serbian Armed Forces and highlighted the importance of their engagement—not only for the Serbian Armed Forces but also for the Republic of Serbia on the whole.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff delegation also met with the Commander of Sector East, Brigadier General Antonio Ortiz Martínez, who emphasized the excellent cooperation with our contingent and commended the professionalism, training, discipline, and dedication of Serbian Armed Forces personnel in carrying out all tasks in accordance with the United Nations mission mandate.
During the visit, the General Staff delegation paid tribute to Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanović at a memorial within the United Nations base—the very spot where this brave and honorable Serbian Armed Forces non-commissioned officer was mortally wounded on June 4 this year while carrying out peacekeeping duties as part of the UNIFIL mission.
