Friday, 29.5.2026 | Multinational Operations
The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers — May 29, dedicated to participants in peacekeeping missions, especially those who lost their lives in the service of peacekeeping in the world, was marked by a series of activities in the Serbian Armed Forces.
On this occasion, an exhibition of photos about the participation of our armed forces in peacekeeping missions from 1956 to the present day was opened in the Serbian Armed Forces Military Club in Belgrade, while in the village of Zagužanje near Surdulica, a delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath on the grave of Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Stanojević, who died in 2022 while on duty in the UN mission in Congo.
The celebration was an opportunity to review the rich history of our army’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, to recognize all soldiers, officers and civilians who were engaged in the service of peace around the world, and to emphasize the professionalism, expertise and competence of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the implementation of all assigned tasks as part of international peacekeeping forces.
By participating in peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to building and preserving peace in the world and at the same time confirm their professionalism and ability to engage forces and resources in an international framework. In addition to operational improvement and improvement of interoperability, such missions also contribute to the development of international cooperation and strengthening the reputation of our country.
Currently, members of the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged in four UN peacekeeping operations, four EU operations, as well as in the mission of the independent peacekeeping organization “Multinational Force and Observers” in the Sinai Peninsula.
