Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, has participated today in the central commemorative ceremony at the “Kragujevac October” Memorial Park in Kragujevac, marking the Day of Remembrance for Serbian victims in the Second World War.
Leading a delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, General Mojsilović laid a wreath—accompanied by military honors—at the Monument to the Executed Students and Teachers in Šumarice, and paid tribute to the innocent victims of the Nazi occupiers.
Chief of the General Staff has also attended a prayer service for the New Martyrs of Kragujevac, as well as the “Great School Lesson”—a traditional musical and theatrical program dedicated to the memory of the citizens of Kragujevac who were executed by a firing squad.
The state ceremony was led by Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia (in a technical capacity), Prof. Đuro Macut, PhD, and was attended by government ministers, Mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dašić, and numerous citizens.
The Day of Remembrance for Serbian Victims in the Second World War is a national holiday observed on October 21st—the anniversary of the mass execution of civilians in Kragujevac in 1941. Among the victims of the occupying forces were students and teachers from the Kragujevac Grammar School; the memory of their suffering is preserved as an enduring reminder of the horrors of war.
