Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic today laid a wreath at a memorial complex "Kadinjaca" in Uzice on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the battle on Kadinjaca. Mrs. Djukic-Dejanovic said that the heroes of Kadinjaca died for high ideals and historic places thus sending a message of peace and reconciliation.
Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic today laid a wreath at a memorial complex "Kadinjaca" in Uzice on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the battle on Kadinjaca. Mrs. Djukic-Dejanovic said that the heroes of Kadinjaca died for high ideals and historic places thus sending a message of peace and reconciliation.
"History was written on 29 November 1941, with the partisans protecting the retreat of the Supreme Headquarters, the workers' battalion with 270 fighters resisting to the last and slow offensive of a far more superior German army," said Djukic-Dejanovic, who led the state delegation to the celebration of 69th anniversary of the Battle of Kadinjaca. She pointed out that such events in Serbian history were a testimony to the spiritual and national integrity.
In the guest book Djukic-Dejanovic wrote quote from the poem by Slavko Vukosavljevic "Kadinjaca" - "!4th mile fell, but never Kadinjaca.
At the memorial complex "Kadinjaca" wreaths were laid with high military honors, by the representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, whose Committee for Fostering the tradition of Serbian liberation wars had organized today's commemoration, of SUBNOR Serbia and the city of Uzice.
The Mayor of Uzice Jovan Markovic said that the city still proudly remembers the fallen partisans on Kadinjaca, stating that this was our duty to honor them especially on 29th November. "It is a debt to the country and the people, because the future will belong to those who remember the past," as Markovic said.
