Training with Systems for Immediate Protection against Aerial Attacks

Members of units of the 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade armed with the HQ-17AE missile system are undergoing intensive training in using this asset in combat and performing specific tasks in the areas of their peacetime deployment.

Continuous training aims at achieving a high level of skills of individuals, crews and unit on the whole in providing air defense of small military facilities, administrative-political facilities and facilities of critical infrastructure, Serbian Armed Forces units and regions from reconnaissance and aerial attacks.

As explained by commander of a missile battery from the 3rd Missile Battalion, Captain 1st Class Miloš Stanojković, the training focuses on the process of preparing for march, marching, gun emplacement, preparing for action and performing anti-aircraft operations.

— One of the most significant characteristics of using attack weapons from the airspace today is mass strikes; that is the reason why special attention is paid to supplementing combat vehicles with combat sets of anti-aircraft missiles. It is an activity that is carried out both in the preparation phase and during the actual execution of anti-aircraft operations. During the training, all members of the unit master all phases of the cycle of engaging aerial targets, from detecting and tracking targets to launching missiles at targets. In the complex conditions in which combat operations are carried out today, accuracy, speed of reaction and coordinated work of all system elements are particularly important. In such a complex system, each member of the crew has his place and role, but only teamwork and mutual trust guarantee success and are key to the high operational capability of the unit - stated Capt. Stanojković.

The modern AD missile system HQ-17AE enables effective detection, simultaneous tracking and engagement, from a stationary position and on the move, of aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, airborne ordnance and cruise missiles. Its introduction into operational use and integration into the air defense system are an important step in the creation of a multi-layered shield over the country’s territory.
