At the “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović” Military Airfield in Niš, the Parachute All-Round Event of Special Purpose Units, the 24th in a row, organized by the Serbian Armed Forces’ 63rd Parachute Brigade, has been opened today.
The official opening of the competition, which has an international character this year, too, was attended by Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.
The Parachute All-Round Event, which follows the example of the best special units’ competitions in the world, includes overcoming a course about 25 kilometers long, with height difference of 600 meters, while carrying out various tactical and fire assignments. This year, nine teams will participate — four from the 63rd Parachute Brigade, two from the 72nd Special Operations Brigade and one team each from the armed forces of Cyprus, Romania and Spain.
On a demanding course, participants will compete in 14 disciplines, such as parachute landing, shooting with an automatic rifle, pistol and knife, pulling out a wounded person and a broken-down vehicle, overcoming wire and water obstacles and contaminated soil, throwing a bomb at a target, climbing a rope and searching the terrain. The competition ends on Friday.
During his stay in the 63rd Parachute Brigade, the Chief of the General Staff also held a meeting with the command staff of this elite Serbian Armed Forces’ unit, discussing the implementation of the most important tasks and plans for the coming period.
General Mojsilović also referred to the recently concluded “Power of Unity” military parade and praised the performance of members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, who, together with other members of the Serbian Armed Forces, during the preparation and implementation of the event itself, showed high motivation, skill and dedication to their vocation and mission to defend the Republic of Serbia.
