Serbian military athletes go to the World Military Games

Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, who will represent the Republic of Serbia at the 5th World Military Games in Rio De Janeiro, from 15 to 25 July, depart for Brazil tonight from Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade. The "Games of Peace" as the motto of this sporting event says, will be attended by about 7 000 members of the armed forces from about 110 countries worldwide, member countries of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, who will represent the Republic of Serbia at the 5th World Military Games in Rio De Janeiro, from 15 to 25 July, depart for Brazil tonight from Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade.

The "Games of Peace" as the motto of this sporting event says, will be attended by about 7 000 members of the armed forces from about 110 countries worldwide, member countries of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). Serbian military athletes will compete at the Games in shooting (air pistol), orienteering, parachuting (jump on a target and formation), judo (73, 81 and 90 kilograms), marathon and track and field (long jump and 5 000 meters).

Chief of Serbian mission of military athletes in Brazil will be the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Zoran Jevtic, and apart from him the team will consist of seventeen athletes, Deputy Chief of Mission, Colonel Zoran Scekic, CISM liaison officer Lt Col Dragan Todorov and a doctor Captain Deniel Pesic.

Serbian Judo team consists of civilian Branko Rašovic, cadet Stevan Stojanovic and a reserve soldier Uros Nenkovic. In the shooting, competitors will be Colonel Mitja Grgic, Captain Sasa Petrovic and cadet Tanja Taci?. Private 1st Class Ksenija Bubnjevic, cadet Nevena Jovanovic and Senior Sergeant Goran Cegar will compete in marathon, and Senior Sergeant Miroslav Bojovic in the discipline long jump. In orienteering, the competitors will be Captain Blazo Maksimovic and Senior Sergeant Igor Vukovic, while Lt Col Slobodan Jovanovic, Captain Goran Stojanovic, Private 1st Class Dejan Cvetkovic and Sergeant Majors Miroljub Janicijevic and Sinisa Micic will be representatives of the Serbian military sport parachuting team.

The organizer of "Games of Peace", the delegation of Brazil to CISM, or the armed forces of Brazil, announced that, based on the quality of the preparatory activities undertaken and resources invested, the 5th World Military Games in Rio De Janeiro will surpass all the previous ones.

Athletes of both sexes will compete in individual and team sports at 20 and 26 disciplines, respectively. The greatest interest is shown in the typical military and martial arts (pentathlon – military, aeronautical and naval, parachuting, shooting, orienteering, judo), but also for sports that build team spirit and cooperation (football, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, sailing).
