Exercise of Serbian and Romanian River Units on Danube

River units of the Serbian Armed Forces and Romanian military and police forces performing tasks along the river conducted an exercise this week on a section of the Danube near Vidin and in the port of Calafat, Romania.

The exercise, named “Blue Danube 2026”, was conducted with the aim of exchanging experience in the application of tactics, techniques and procedures in inland waterway operations, enhancing training and capabilities for the joint execution of tasks, and strengthening mutual understanding and trust.

During the multi-day activities on the river, the naval and diving units of the two countries practiced, through realistic scenarios on and under the water, maneuver, search and rescue, stopping suspicious vessels, repairing malfunctions and damage, and towing a vessel.

The exercise involved the special-purpose ship “Kozara”, two multipurpose vessels and three boats, with 70 soldiers and officers of the Serbian Armed Forces River Flotilla, as well as 90 members of the Romanian Armed Forces and Border Police, with a river monitor and a patrol boat.

The exercise was conducted pursuant to a conclusion of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and represents one of the many activities of bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and Romania aimed at building concrete capabilities and promoting good-neighborly relations and stability in the region.
