Chief of General Staff Meeting with Military Bishop Dositej

Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović has met with the bishop responsible for military chaplains in the Serbian Armed Forces, His Grace Vicar Bishop Dositej of Lipljan today.

The discussion at the meeting covered regular activities of the Chaplaincy Service in the Serbian Armed Forces, work of military chaplains and their assistants, and plans for marking the St. Patron’s Day of the Serbian Armed Forces, Saint Stefan, the Tall, Serbian despot, celebrated by the Serbian Armed Forces in accordance with the Decision of the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church as its own spiritual patron and heavenly protector since 2023.

It has jointly been assessed that the cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and the Serbian Orthodox Church is at an exceptional level, with the highlight on the importance of the Chaplaincy Service for fulfilling religious needs of the Serbian Armed Forces’ members, both Orthodox and non-Orthodox ones belonging to traditional churches and religious communities in the Republic of Serbia.

The meeting was attended by Head of the Human Resources Directorate (J-1), Brigadier General Slađan Hristov, and Head of the CHOD’s Office, Colonel Boris Stojković.

The Chaplaincy Service is intended for members of the Serbian Armed Forces to exercise the freedom of religion, for strengthening spiritual and moral values and fostering military virtues and patriotism. It is performed by priests, i.e. religious officials of traditional churches and religious communities; members of the Serbian Armed Forces participate in the activities of the service of their own free will and conviction, while respecting the obligations arising from military service.
