A military ceremony marking the Day of the River Units of the Serbian Armed Forces and also the Day of the River Flotilla held today at the Quay of the Raid Victims on the Danube River in Novi Sad.

Marking the holiday, a ceremonial line-up of boats and pontoon units’ assets of River Flotilla was organized, the best ship and the best crew were declared, and awards and commendations were presented to the most prominent soldiers and officers.

The ceremony was attended by Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, earlier commanders of the River Flotilla, the representatives of local self-government bodies, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Ministry of the Interior and numerous guests.

The Day of River Units and River Flotilla are commemorated in memory of 6 August 1915, when the first Serbian warship, the armored boat “Jadar”, was launched from the Čukarica River. This is how the history of the Combat River Flotilla was established.
