SAF High-Performance Radars in Air Defence System

Thursday, 12.3.2026 | Training
With continuous engagement as part of the permanently deployed forces for control and protection of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia, the 126th Air Surveillance, Early Warning and Guidance Brigade units carry out daily training with modern radar-computer assets and automation systems.

The training is carried out in order to train the professional staff and improve further the ability to perform specific tasks, with the maximum use of assets for observation and control of the airspace, guiding combat aviation, directing artillery-missile units to assigned aerial targets and providing navigational assistance to aircraft in an emergency.

Among the modern high-performance assets in the 126th ASEWG Brigade is the medium-range surveillance radar GM-200, as one of the critical systems for observation and control of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia.

Training with this equipment is carried out at the radar position and it includes theoretical contents on the potential of radar technology and procedures for maintaining and protecting the system from electronic jamming, as well as practical work including exercises of maneuver with dislocation and operational work at reserve radar positions.

The GM-200 surveillance radar is a three-dimensional, multi-purpose, tactical, medium-range mobile radar, intended for detection and tracking of all types of aerial targets independently or as part of the air defence system. It detects aerial targets up to 250 km away and up to 25 km high.

By procuring this radar and introducing into use the modern long-range radar system GM-400, as well as the new system for processing and displaying the air situation and automatic control “SOVA 24”, the spatial and information capabilities of the 126th ASEWG Brigade and Air Force and Air Defence on the whole to control and protect the airspace of the Republic of Serbia were significantly improved.
