Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, and Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović visited the SAF’s Guard in the "Dedinje" barracks in Belgrade today.

Minister Stefanović emphasized that it was a great honour for him to visit the Guard, the Serbian Armed Forces’ unit which was present in everyday life of the citizens of Serbia and composed of highly professional people who were this unit’s main asset.

— Its members can be seen at numerous events and activities in the country and abroad. They welcome foreign dignitaries, participate in other counties’ events, such as parades that we could see over the past years, their Orchestra is world-famous... Members of the Guard, i.e. the 25th Military Police Battalion provide security to a number of military facilities in Belgrade, but also to representative and other strategic facilities that they guard, provide logistical support to and take care of — said the minister of defence, adding that members of the Guard are always up to the expectations.

Minister Stefanović emphasized that this was a unit that cultivated a tradition dating back to the Obrenović dynasty.

— Today, the Guard is composed of people who are this unit’s main asset, who are highly professional and make our country proud. My job is to help them by investing more funds in the coming period so that they can be even better equipped and reinforced, and it is their job to continue taking care of our country as they have done so far — said Minister Stefanović.

During today’s visit, the minister of defence saw the display of the Guard’s weapons and tactical equipment, St George’s Chapel and the Guard’s Memorial Room and wrote the following in the memorial book: "Always defend Serbia’s honour and dignity, as you do today. All members of the Guard who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our country deserve eternal glory".
