A ceremony on the occasion of departure of a new Serbian contingent deploying to the European Union Training Mission in Somalia was given today at the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

Our contingent, which will spend six months in the area of operation, includes a staff officer serving as the mission’s JMED and a medical team that will be responsible for providing primary health care to international forces personnel stationed at Mogadishu airport.

Today's ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, Chief of the Operations Directorate (J-3), Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, and H.E. Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia.

The Serbian Armed Forces started deployment in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia in 2012, and so far 95 Serbian doctors and nurses have served in this mission, working in the HQ and the medical team.

By participating in EU military operations, carried out within the framework of the common security and defence policy, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to Serbia’s European integration process and the preservation of peace in the world.
