Test flights on fighter aircraft NJ-22 Eagle at Ladjevci airport near Kraljevo today completed the basic training for Major Aleksandar Gajic and Captain Igor Djordjevic, pilots of 98th Aviation Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces, who are on the re-training for the plane Eagle. Air Force and Air defence Commander Major General Ranko Zivak evaluated the ability of the pilots for flying the aircraft.

- The role of the evaluator for me is a nice role, because I was involved in this business for a long time in the squadron. The pilots converted to flying the Eagle aircraft from G-4 plane, on which they finished complete training. The flight was a school one, the conditions were aviation conditions, technique was correct, colleagues were extremely well prepared, they performed all elements of the take-off, landing and flying acrobatic basics well and safely, and so successfully mastered the training segment called basic flying – General Zivak said adding that the pilots are now expected to continue training, especially combat training and qualifying for instrument and night flying.

- Training is our everyday task. It is a process that requires constant training of young personnel and maintenance of training level of each pilot. Retraining pilots started in 98th Aviation Brigade is significant in terms of the number of pilots and squadrons to which they are assigned – Zivak pointed out.

Answering a reporter's question, the AF&AD Commander said that the acquisition of new aircraft is being intensively worked on, but there are a number of prerequisites that must be satisfied for that the issue to be finalised.

- The need for new planes was clearly stated, and it is important not only because of the training that is our main task in peacetime, but because of our everyday task, and it is control and protection of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia – he said.

Along with test flights, at the Ladjevci airport today re-training of pilots from G-4 aircraft to Eagle was continued, and it was entrusted to the only AF&AD unit that uses this type of aircraft – 241st Fighter-Bomber Squadron Tigers of the 98th Aviation Brigade. After many years, this is the first re-training at the airport near Kraljevo, and the pilots had previously mastered the theoretical and practical education and passed all inspections.
