In a self-propelled MLRS battalion of the 2nd Army Brigade, the training of professional staff is underway with the modular rocket launchers M-18 “Oganj” that the unit has been equipped with recently.

In the initial phase, the training is carried out on training grounds in the area of the peacetime location, followed by tactical drills, exercises and live firing at targets at different distances and in different conditions, so that the unit members could be fully qualified to use the assets in combat operations on the modern battlefield.

Second Lieutenant Đorđe Branković, a platoon commander in the artillery battery, points out that the self-propelled modular MLRS M-18 “Oganj” is intended for fire support of Army units and engaging critical targets deep within enemy lines, and is mounted on the chassis of the FAP 2234 motor vehicle.

— The main difference between this asset and its predecessor is the modularity, ensuring firing using missiles of different calibers: 122 mm, 128 mm, 232 mm and 434 mm. By switching the “hail”, “flame”, “fire” and “alas” modules, we achieve different ranges and therefore different effects on the targets — said 2nd Lt Branković.

With the introduction of this modern missile artillery weapon in the armament of the Serbian Armed Forces, the combat capabilities of units to provide fire support were improved. The modular M-18 “Oganj” has an automatic sight line, orientation and navigation, the possibility of using different containers with different ammunition, the possibility of an independent combat mission and working in conjunction with a universal mobile artillery computer station, shortened time of preparation and opening fire and greater protection of crew members.
