At the training ground “Karapandža” near Kraljevo, joint training of the crews from the artillery battalions of the Army with improved self-propelled howitzers 122 mm 2S1 M-21 was carried out.
The training was attended by the crews from all howitzer-artillery battalions in order to improve the training process and skills in using the modernized weapons in combat, which, by installing a modern fire control system, obtained greater firepower, speed and fire accuracy, with a stronger effect on the target.
Commander of the 23rd self-propelled howitzer-artillery battalion, Major Ivan Todosijević, has said that the training at the range was preceded by professional-specialist training at the “Jovan Kursula” barracks in Kraljevo.
— At the training ground, we applied part of the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice, through tactical training and data calculation. In the next phase, we are also supposed to implement stationary camp and live firing at the “Pasuljanske Livade” training ground, said Major Todosijević.
Platoon commander Second Lieutenant Aleksa Pavlica points out that the use of these modernized systems contributed to the acceleration of the preparation process and execution of artillery fire.
— This shortened the time of orientation and direction of the weapon and increased the range by 20%, using the M-10 projectile, or by 39% with the M-10 projectile with a gas generator. The speed of the crews’ work has also increased, as well as the speed of moving from one firing position to another - said 2nd Lt Pavlica.
Afterwards, the crews are supposed to undergo more complex forms of training and further improvement, and their firearms and tactical skills, as well as the training quality, will be checked during live-fire tactical exercises.
