A three-day tactical exercise “Serbian Shield Z22” has been held at the South Base and Borovac Training Ground, during which the skills and interoperability of the force protection platoon from the Training Command for engagement in the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon was checked.
During the exercise, the unit members carried out tactical tasks tailored to those that may be expected in the AO. The team from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff evaluated the control of coordinated action, correct execution of actions and compliance with international training standards that the unit should reach.
As explained by the platoon commander, Captain 1st Class Đorđe Kričak, the unit will be engaged in Sector West of the peacekeeping operation in Lebanon.
— The main task is stationary security of base 1-26, where the Italian battalion is stationed. The unit must also be trained to secure the place of basing and events in the base, to organize and work at observation stations, to secure the places of the occurrence of the incident and to act in case of encountering unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive device. The force protection platoon of the Serbian Armed Forces is engaged in continuous twenty-four-hour security of the base, and it is sent to the AO for a period of six months in principle — said Captain Kričak, adding that it was planned for them to leave for Lebanon in early September.
Based on the results of the exercise, the team from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff established that the force protection platoon had reached the defined standards and that it was fully trained, equipped and ready to engage in a peacekeeping operation.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been engaging a force protection platoon in this United Nations operation since 2014; currently, there are an SAF infantry company, staff officers and a group of specialists in charge of supporting our contingent in Lebanon performing peacekeeping tasks.
