A regular replacement of the Serbian Armed Forces medical contingent in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) has taken place in the last few days in Mogadishu, the capital of this East African country.

In this peacekeeping operation, the Serbian Armed Forces contingent consists of doctors and medical technicians — a staff officer appointed as head of the medical service in the mission and a five-member medical team.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces who completed their engagement in the mission had been there since August last year. They had successfully completed all assigned tasks, which earned them recognition and highest marks from their superiors at the mission HQ; they presented properly the Serbian military medical service and professionalism typical of the Serbian Armed Forces members.

The doctors and medical technicians sent to Somalia last week for another six months, like their predecessors, will be performing the tasks in the field of medical support of training, preventive medical care and treatment of the injured and sick members of international forces stationed at Mogadishu Airport.

The Serbian Armed Forces began participating in EUTM Somalia in 2012, and, so far, more than 140 doctors and medical technicians have been engaged in this mission, performing their roles at the mission HQ and within the medical team. By participating in both UN and EU peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces give contribution to preserving global peace and strengthening the reputation of our country, confirming at the same time their ability to engage forces and resources in an international environment.
