Serbian Armed Forces Conclude this year’s Seasonal Engagement on Lido Beach

Today, members of the Serbian Armed Forces dismantled the pontoon bridge across the Danube that had connected Lido city beach on the Great War Island with the Zemun Quay.
Throughout the summer season, a dedicated duty crew from the River Flotilla’s pontoon unit was assigned to oversee the bridge’s security and maintenance, providing citizens with easy access to the beach.
The 345-metre-long pontoon bridge, with a total capacity of 20 tons and consisting of 38 pontoon elements, was installed at the end of June. Its dismantling today marked the end of this year’s summer season at this popular Danube beach.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ members, in cooperation with the Tourist Organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, have been providing seasonal crossing over the Danube between the Great War Island and the Zemun Quay for years now. In addition to benefitting citizens, the experience gained from transporting the structure by river, as well as assembling and dismantling the bridge, serves as an opportunity to enhance the skills and readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces’ pontoon units for the execution of their tasks.
