Serbian Armed Forces Help Municipalities Facing Water Shortages

Amid a prolonged drought that has caused water shortages in parts of the country, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been deployed—at the request of local authorities—to assist in supplying water to households in the territories of Bujanovac, Veliko Gradište, and Kruševac.

Efforts are primarily focused on replenishing wells and water reservoirs used for households and livestock watering in Donje Novo Selo (near Bujanovac), Veliki Šiljegovac (near Kruševac), and Ram (near Veliko Gradište). Serbian Armed Forces personnel operating water tanker trucks will remain deployed in these locations until hydrological conditions and the water supply stabilize.

Regarding tasks involving assistance to the public, Serbian Armed Forces engineers ensure the safety and maintenance of pontoon bridges across the Velika Morava near Svilajnac and across the Danube—connecting the Zemun Quay to Great War Island—on a daily basis, while military medical teams support the Ministry of Health by carrying out the “Military Doctor in the Village” initiative. Serbian Armed Forces units that have recently participated in extinguishing fires in the Deliblato Sands are currently on standby for deployment should the fire flare up again.

At a time when many parts of Serbia are facing water shortages and wildfires due to extreme temperatures, the Serbian Armed Forces remain ready to deploy their personnel and assets—within the limits of their capabilities—to assist the population and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters. In doing so, they demonstrate that they are always at the service of the citizens, not only in the defense of the country but also when it is necessary to supply water, extinguish fires, bridge rivers, provide medical aid, build roads, remediate landslides, or clear snowdrifts.
