Training in Overcoming Water Obstacles

As part of the regular cycle of training in carrying out specific tasks in summer conditions, members of the reconnaissance units of the 3rd Army Brigade and the Armored Reconnaissance Battalion have conducted training in the Oblačina Lake area.

This phase of reconnaissance units’ training is focused primarily on improving skills in overcoming water obstacles with standard and improvised vessels.

During the multi-day activities on the lake, they trained to operate landing boats and make rafts from barrels and other materials, simultaneously carrying out different tactical tasks by applying standard camouflage measures, using the most modern systems and means of observation.

The emphasis was on the training of newly recruited professional soldiers who, under the supervision and instructions of their superiors, acquired the necessary knowledge about the construction and maneuvering of improvised rafts made of car tires and timber, as well as several barrels.

The reconnaissance units also practiced managing standard vessels, overcoming water obstacles with a rope and throwing a knife, in order to improve the skills needed for a safe and efficient access to the combat area and implementation of tasks in the assigned AOR.

Commander of the reconnaissance company, Captain 1st Class Saša Stefanović, has pointed out that during training in special conditions soldiers of the reconnaissance specialty have the opportunity to learn about their personal limits and capabilities, focusing on the team spirit.

— The training is designed in such a way that the most modern assets are used, corresponding to the ones used by the most equipped militaries in the world. However, the equipment is not the strongest point of our battalion, it is actually the people. Members of the battalion are distinguished by their character, physical and mental abilities; through their engagement and adequate equipment, they manage to leave a special mark, achieving success in the implementation of all tasks. A member of a recce unit is a soldier who sees first, not the one who sees the most, and that makes the difference between a missed opportunity and a successfully completed task, said Captain 1st Class Stefanović.

The training of the reconnaissance units of the Serbian Armed Forces is carried out throughout the year in different terrain and all conditions in which their engagement can be expected, ensuring high competence of these units in performing the tasks of providing intelligence to the forces in operations.
