The Serbian Armed Forces contingent, which has been in the mission of the independent peacekeeping organization International Force and Observers in Sinai since August last year, has successfully completed its engagement and handed over its duties to the new Serbian contingent.
During their six-month stay in the AO, members of the 5th Serbian Armed Forces contingent in this mission carried out numerous engineering and infrastructure works, such as maintaining facilities and systems, improving technical capacities and providing support to the forces in the mission. Of particular importance is the engagement in the construction of a new water supply and hydrant network in the peacekeeping camp.
With the successful implementation of tasks and their attitude towards their duties, they worthily represented the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia in an international environment. They were replaced by a new Serbian contingent, sixth in a row since the beginning of the engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces units in the mission, sent to Sinai in late February. Taking into account the current situation in the wider region, the mission pays special attention to the security of the deployed peacekeeping forces.
The mission of the independent peacekeeping organization International Force and Observers was created in accordance with the agreement between Egypt and Israel in 1981, with the aim of implementing the security provisions of the 1978 Egypt-Israel Agreement. By sending an engineering task force as part of the American contingent, the Serbian Armed Forces began their participation in the mission in July 2023, thus confirming its commitment to building and preserving peace.
