The Aviation Day was solemnly marked at the Air Force and Air Defense Command and air force brigades on August 02 in memory of the day when the 1893 Decree was passed stipulating that each division of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia should have one aviation balloon company.

On this occasion, military ceremonies were held at the Air Force Club in Zemun, and there were parades of units at the military airfields “Colonel Pilot Milenko Pavlović” in Batajnica and “Morava” in Lađevci.

The holiday was an opportunity for Air Force and Air Defense Commander, Major General Brane Krnjajić, to present the pilots with golden flying badges and titles of flight instructors at the ceremony staged at the Air Force Club.

In an overview of the past year’s results, he has pointed out that the modernization, overhaul and extension of resources for some of the aircraft continued, with the improvement of the living and working conditions of the personnel, storing and maintenance of critical assets; there was an increase in the pilots’ flight hours and excellent results were achieved during the training.

— I would like to stress the signing of the contract for the procurement of the Rafale multirole combat aircraft as something very significant in the past year. Launching this project of national importance means that the aviation branch and Air Force and Air Defense on the whole are entering a new technological era that will surely require a lot of effort and work from all of us, said General Krnjajić.

On the occasion of the holiday, awards were handed to the most successful individuals and wreaths were laid at the Air Force and Air Defense Command’s and military airfields’ memorials, which is a way for this arm of the Serbian Armed Forces to preserve the memory of the heroes who laid down their lives while defending the homeland from the NATO aggression in 1999.

The ceremonies at the Serbian Air Force and Air Defense Command and military airfields were attended by representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces units, former commanders, families of the fallen soldiers and officers, representatives of the local government bodies and Serbian Orthodox Church and other distinguished guests.
