Training of Paratroopers of Serbian Armed Forces in Wind Tunnel

Members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade who are undergoing advanced forms of training were staying in Prague this week to conduct training and exercises in a free fall simulator - a wind tunnel.

This type of training is carried out in order to reduce the time required to master complex parachute techniques, increase safety and reduce material costs, since the wind tunnel allows detailed training of the free fall elements in controlled conditions, simulating the real situations that parachutists encounter when jumping from aircraft from up to 4000 meters.

Each of the paratroopers spent the time in the tunnel equivalent to performing about 50 training jumps from an airplane, which represents a significant advantage over classical training methods — both in terms of economy, efficiency and safety.

The focus was on training needed to perform parachute jumps with combat equipment and weapons, as well as improving the techniques of mastering the critical elements of stability and control of the body in free fall.

Parachute training in the wind tunnel, carried out in the Czech Republic over the last years as well, is only one segment of the complex training of members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade which is carried out in the unit throughout the year in order to maintain top-notch capabilities for performing assigned tasks in Serbian Armed Forces operations.
