In the units of the 126th Air Surveillance, Early Warning and Guidance Brigade (ASEWG), forward air controllers are being trained to guide fighter combat aviation and provide navigational assistance to military aircraft in emergency situations.

This activity is part of regular training of officers appointed as forward air controllers in the ASEWG companies, and is intended to maintain their competence in accordance with the highest standards required by the process of controlling and guiding the aircraft.

The training is carried out with the newly introduced system for processing and displaying the air situation and automatic control “SOVA 24” and in coordination with flight training of fighter aviation crews.

In this way, they acquire optimal skills needed to engage with permanently deployed forces for control and protection of the airspace of the Republic of Serbia, in real time and under conditions as close as possible to the actual situation.

Forward air controllers also cooperate with the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency, practicing together the procedure of handing over the responsibility of directing military aircraft in the airspace of the Republic of Serbia, the focus being on using properly the prescribed aviation phraseology in communication.

The execution of this training, carried out in the 126th ASEWG Brigade throughout the year, improves the cooperation and interoperability of all participants in aviation communication, thus the overall capabilities of the Air Force and Air Defense to control and protect the airspace of the Republic of Serbia.
