HOLY CROSS SWIMMING CONTEST

The eleventh swimming contest for the Glorious Cross as part of celebrating Epiphany was held at Ada Ciganlija today. The students of the Military Academy also participated as well as SAF members in this manifestation.

Swimming at a 33meter long track the cross was pulled from underwater by the 26 year old Marko Toomasevic, member of the Gendarmerie.

Aleksandar Sokolov, student of the Military Academy, came in second as he was overtaken by Marko Tomasevic by the lenghth of half the hand. The following members of the defense system took part in the celebration: Zoran Sretenovic, Marko Marjanovic, Darko Nikolic, Djordje Simic, Ivan Petrovic, Stevan Vujcic, Milos Krstic, Viktor Mladar and Nemanja Cojic.

 Among 35 contestants there were also members of Gendarmerie, SVIBOR and the guests from Montenegro, the oldest contestant being a 76-year old Aleksandar Danicic while the youngest participants Aleksandra Radulovic,(7)and a a nine-year old Momir Radulovic and a 14year old Bojana Dedic from Sombor.

The winner of the contest was awarded the cross made of ice, made of the holy water from Sveta Trojica Church.

The organizer was Cukarica municipality, the Serbian Orthodox Church and Public Company Ada Ciganlija.
