Organized by the Serbian Armed Forces’ Peacekeeping Operations Center, an international course on the protection of civilians in peacekeeping operations is being held in Belgrade this and next week.

The participants of the course, for the execution of which our center is certified by the United Nations Integrated Training Service, are members of the Serbian Armed Forces and armed forces of the Republic of South Africa, Slovakia, Tanzania and Spain. They will be trained to apply the concept of protection of civilians in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The training program includes theoretical contents on modern challenges and priorities of peacekeeping operations, United Nations standards regarding the protection of civilians, as well as practicing prescribed procedures in situations where the lives of civilians in the area of operation are immediately threatened.

Training is being conducted by instructors from the Peacekeeping Operations Center and visiting lecturers from the Peace Support Operations Training Center from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

While planning and implementing all the tasks, the Serbian Armed Forces pay special attention to the protection of civilians, and organization of such courses is only one of the activities carried out in that direction.
