International UN Staff Officers Course

An international UN Staff Officers Course, organized by the Serbian Armed Forces’ Peacekeeping Operations Centre, has begun at Base South near Bujanovac. The course is attended by officers from 11 countries from three continents.

In addition to members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, the course trainees come from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Egypt, India, Italy, Libya, Morocco, Turkey, and France.

During the three-week training process at our centre, they will be trained to perform staff duties in UN peacekeeping operations in accordance with current standards and procedures.

The key topics include the functioning of UN integrated missions, the military component planning process and staff functions and procedures. They will also be introduced to the experiences of staff officers from current peacekeeping operations. 

The course is conducted by instructors from the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, the Peacekeeping Operations Centre from Kazakhstan, the Red Cross of Serbia, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the UN Children’s Fund in the Republic of Serbia.

The Peacekeeping Operations Centre has been certified to conduct this course in accordance with UN standards and procedures since 2015. There is traditionally a great deal of interest in attending the course, which testifies to the reputation of our centre in the international arena and the quality of training in the Serbian Armed Forces for engagement in peacekeeping operations.
