At the “Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović” Military Airfield in Niš, advanced parachute training is underway, attended by members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade and the Gendarmerie.

The main goal of this training is to train paratroopers to perform free-fall jumps with special parachutes, with weapons and equipment, from heights of up to 5500 meters, using the High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) and High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) techniques, while landing on small-sized terrains with obstacles in the environment, in order to perform combat tasks.

The paratroopers who have demonstrated the highest level of readiness and ability during selective training and psycho-physically strenuous and demanding jumps are admitted to the advanced parachute training.

During the training, they acquire new knowledge and skills related to the packing, storage and maintenance of special parachutes, the work of paratroopers in an aircraft, and carrying weapons and equipment while doing the jumps with the wing-type parachute. They will master the knowledge of the stability of the body in free fall and the basics of meteorology, performing jumps with a special parachute on small-sized terrain.

The implementation of this training makes the professional basis for further advancement of parachute training on the whole, as well as selection of the most capable paratroopers, who will be the linchpin of combat operations with special landing. With further training and advancement in different conditions, in this way, the unit produces paratroopers trained to perform the most complex tasks.

Advanced parachute training is only one segment of the complex training of members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, carried out in the unit throughout the year in order to maintain the highest level of competence in the execution of assigned tasks in the operations of the Serbian Armed Forces.
