Training With Self-Propelled Artillery Systems

A new cycle of routine training for serving personnel has begun in the Army brigades’ artillery battalions armed with self-propelled howitzers 122mm 2S1 “Gvozdika”.

It takes place at SAF barracks’ training grounds and exercise areas aiming to sustain and increase proficiency in undertaking tactical combat actions and providing fire support to Army evolution units.

At this training stage, the howitzer crews are focused on refining tactical actions on the move, gun emplacement and displacement, as well as delivering and adjusting artillery fire. That is a way for soldiers and officers to refresh their knowledge on the tactics of the unit’s employment, and for newly-admitted soldiers to reach the required level of tactical skills, so that they could master successfully more complex forms of training.

This training cycle rounds off with conducting a life-fire tactical exercise so as to test how skilled the crews are in performing intended tasks.

The self-propelled howitzer 122mm 2S1 “Gvozdika” is intended to destroy and neutralize manpower and adversarial artillery weapons, demolish strong points, wire and other obstacles, make passages through mine fields, illuminate the battlefield and create smokescreen. As such, it plays a critical role in conducting offensive and defensive SAF operations.
